1946
Establishment of Lam Hong
Lam Hong Group was founded in 1946, in the immediate post‑war period, by Mr See Cheow Song. Incorporated as Lam Hong Company, the business began operations at 101 Sungei Road, initially trading in metal and recycled goods.
Established during a time of economic rebuilding, the company demonstrated early resilience and adaptability. This modest beginning laid the groundwork for Lam Hong’s future growth, forming the foundation of what would evolve into a diversified group serving the marine, offshore, construction and heavy‑lifting industries over the decades.
1960
Relocation to 530 Beach Road and Early Marine Focus
Under the leadership of founder Mr See CS, Lam Hong experienced significant growth and relocated its operations to a factory at 530 Beach Road. Strategically positioned at the mouth of the Kallang Basin and the Singapore River, the location provided direct access to vessels and boats docking along the river, enabling Lam Hong to efficiently support ship supply activities.
During this period, Lam Hong sharpened its focus on the marine and offshore sector, becoming one of the earliest companies in Singapore to import and supply wire ropes, anchors, anchor chains and related marine hardware. This strategic shift laid the foundation for the Group’s long‑term involvement in the marine and offshore industries, establishing Lam Hong as a trusted supplier at a time when Singapore’s port and maritime activities were rapidly expanding.
1969
Relocation to 74 & 76 Jalan Benaan Kapal and Operational Expansion
In line with the Singapore Government’s redevelopment plans for the Kallang River, Lam Hong successfully tendered for a prime industrial site at Tanjong Rhu and relocated its operations from Beach Road to 74 & 76 Jalan Benaan Kapal. The new facility, still fronting the Kallang River from its eastern end, offered enhanced operational capacity and continued waterfront access.
The relocation enabled Lam Hong to expand its inventory capacity and strengthen its core focus on marine, offshore and industrial equipment supply. With improved facilities and waterfront access, the company was better positioned to support growing customer demand and to scale its operations in anticipation of Singapore’s expanding maritime and industrial activities.
Fun Fact: Jalan Benaan Kapal is a Malay road name which translates to “road”; Benaan meaning “construction” or “building”; and Kapal means “ship”.

The move enabled the consolidation of operations across multiple warehouses, significantly improving logistics, inventory management and workflow efficiency.
Lam Hong was among the first companies in its industry to establish operations in the Jurong Industrial Estate, aligning with the Singapore Government’s vision to transform Jurong into a major industrial and manufacturing hub.
